Music Ministries
All praise for music, deep gift profound,
through hands and voices in holy sound;
the psalms of David, and Mary's praise,
in word-less splendor and lyric phrase,
wih all creation one song we raise:
Soli Deo Gloria! Soli Deo Gloria!
--from Marty Haugen's Soli Deo Gloria
Music plays an important role in our worship life at St. John's. As we celebrate and as we grieve, music gives voice to some our our deepest emotions. Similarly, music can shape our experience and focus our thoughts.
You are invited to participate in one of St. John’s vocal or handbell choirs, or sing or play instrumental solos. Each musical group works toward increased musicianship that enhances spiritual growth.
SING!
Adult Choir - A SATB choir (soprano-alto-tenor-bass), rehearses Wednesdays, 7:30-9:00 pm. This volunteer choir provides music and leads worship for the first two Sundays of the month at 8:00 am, the second two at 10:45 am, and for some festival services at both 8:00 and 10:45 am. The choir also sings for evening services during Advent, Lent and Holy Week. No audition is required.
JOYSONG! - This is a worship team composed of instrumentalists and vocalists who lead worship at the JOY! Services on Saturdays at 5:00 pm. We use a fun, up-beat mix of contemporary and traditional music for a blended worship sound. Audition try-out is required.
Choristers (Currently on hiatus) - The Choristers is a children's choir meeting September through May, and is for grades 3-8 with unchanged voices. Second graders are allowed to join with the director's OK! Rehearsals are Wednesdays at 4:45 pm. The choir sings for worship once a month. They attend a festival every other year in the Northern Virginia area sponsored by Choristers Guild.
