Music Ministries

All praise for music, deep gift profound,
through hands and voices in holy sound;
the psalms of David, and Mary's praise,
in word-less splendor and lyric phrase,
wih all creation one song we raise:
Soli Deo Gloria! Soli Deo Gloria!

--
from Marty Haugen's Soli Deo Gloria

Music plays an important role in our worship life at St. John's.  As we celebrate and as we grieve, music gives voice to some our our deepest emotions.  Similarly, music can shape our experience and focus our thoughts.

You are invited to participate in one of St. John’s vocal or handbell choirs, or sing or play instrumental solos. Each musical group works toward increased musicianship that enhances spiritual growth.

SING!

Adult Choir - A SATB choir (soprano-alto-tenor-bass), rehearses Wednesdays, 7:30-9:00 pm.  This volunteer choir provides music and leads worship at all Holy Communion services at 8:00 am and 10:45 am, and for some festival services at both 8:00 and 10:45 am.  The choir also sings for evening services during Advent, Lent and Holy Week.  No audition is required.

JOYSONG! - This is a music team composed of instrumentalists and vocalists who lead worship at the JOY! services on Saturdays at 5:00 pm. We welcome singers, guitarists and drummers as well as keyboard players. We use a fun, up-beat mix of contemporary and traditional music for a blended worship sound. Audition try-out is required. JOYSONG! will join with all the other choirs in celebrating the 15th anniversary of JOY! on Saturday, September 19, 2009.

Choristers - This choir is for children in grades 2-6 with unchanged voices. The choir  sings for worship once a month. A variety of musical instruments including Orff xylophones to handbells and hand chimes will be used, and they will attend a Children’s Choral Festival, sponsored by the Choristers Guild. Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00 p.m.

RING!

Bells Angels Handbell Choir - Rehearses on Thursdays, 7:30-9:00 pm, September through early June. This choir plays intermediate to advanced music and rings 5 octaves of Schulmerich Handbells and 5 octaves of Malmark Choir Chimes. They play for worship once a month at both 8:00 and 10:45 am services, attend handbell festivals sponsored by the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR), and present several concerts. Auditions are required.

Guitar Fellowship - Meets the third Saturday of the month in rooms 301-303 at 3:30 p.m. with Scott Budzien. Bring your guitar and learn to play with a group and have fun! Last year’s group played for one JOY! service on Saturday evening.
