Perseverance
Many years ago, we bought our house from a lovely couple who had grown children and a love of gardening. We moved in with toddlers and busy jobs, and slowly (mostly due to our inattention) the formal gardens in the back yard yielded to manageable lawn. But every spring, these bulbs pop up and give us a brief show of lush green and flowers, before eventually succumbing to the lawn mower. I suppose if we really wanted to, we could dig up the bulbs to prevent this from happening. But I kind of like this loud and reliable announcement of spring.
Perseverance. It’s a trait I most admire in people. Perseverance is what we need in these weird and anxious days of coronavirus and self-quarantine. Disruptions in work, school, church and really just about everything, while completely necessary, are stressful and unsettling. I really appreciate the quick-thinking creativity of Pastor Meehan and Jennifer Hills, putting our Sunday worship online. I know there are more great ideas out there to help us all thrive, and persevere, in the weeks ahead.
