The Koinonia Foundation Inc.

The Koinonia Foundation, Inc. is a faith-based, non-profit organization recognized by Fairfax County to provide both short-term emergency assistance and self-sufficiency services to residents of the Franconia/Kingstowne district.

For nearly five decades, the foundation has consistently provided emergency relief services as the primary organization of its type in its service area. Koinonia helps to meet challenges of daily living by providing food, clothing, learning, and emergency financial assistance to qualified clients regardless of beliefs.

The name Koinonia comes from a Greek word found multiple times in the New Testament of the Bible (some references are Acts 2:42-47, 1 Corinthians 10:16, Philippians 3:10, Hebrews 13:16, and 1 John 1:3-7) and it is dense with meaning. It refers to the spiritual fellowship that believers in Jesus Christ have with God once they receive the Holy Spirit. It also describes the spiritual and physical communion that believers in Jesus Christ have with each other and the outpouring generosity that their salvation produces.

St. John’s is proud to support the efforts of Koinonia in the following ways:

  • Share Sunday (the first Sunday of each month) - non-perishable food items are collected and donated
  • August Angels – back-to-school supplies are collected and donated
  • Thanksgiving Food Baskets
  • Christmas Wishes – gifts for children are purchased and donated
  • Christmas Food Baskets
