About us
The Friends of Music at St John’s invites parish members and non-members to support the music program, and take part in the musical life of the church through special services & concerts. Financial support from The St. John’s Friends of Music will support concerts and musicians for special worship services throughout the year by covering costs that exceed the annual music budget.
Because music so profoundly touches our lives, it is easy to forget that presenting concerts and special events comes at financial cost. However, with the support of The St. John’s Friends of Music, together we can build a musical tradition through which our parish, and the Alexandria community at large, can be deeply enriched.
We need your help. If you are not already a contributor to The St. John’s Friends of Music, I invite and urge you to join us in this important work. If you would like to become a benefactor, your tax-deductible gift will be joyfully welcomed through check or online payment with ‘Friends of Music’ in the memo line. You are welcome to make your gift ‘in memory of’ or ‘in thanksgiving for’ a loved one.
Thank you for your consideration and generous support of music at St. John’s.
CONCEPT
The overall concept of “Friends of Music” is to support the Music Ministry at St John’s Lutheran Church. “Friends of Music” will provide concerts throughout the year, while inviting members of the community to St John’s.
ARTISTS AND ACTS
“Friends of Music”, while focused on music performance, may also encourage other expressive arts for all age groups.
LEADERSHIP
“Friends of Music” will be led by our Music Director, David Leahey, including a support committee to help with general logistics and promotions.
CALENDAR
At the onset, “Friends of Music” will plan to offer four music concerts per year. The concerts will be scheduled after discussions with all parties involved.
“FRIENDS OF MUSIC” CONCERT SCHEDULE
2024
• March 2024 – Organ Recital by David Leahey (March 17 at 4pm) Watch Concert
• September/October 2024 – Leahey and Lane (October 20 at 5pm) Watch Concert
• December 2024 – Concert 4 - SpeechLess (December 8, at 4pm)
We could very well offer more than four concerts per year depending on financial contributions. It is also hoped that “Friends of Music” will have funds to sponsor higher level acts on occasion.
“FRIENDS OF MUSIC” VOLUNTEER SUPPORT
“Friends of Music” would depend substantially on St John’s members and community volunteers to support the events. Specific duties that could be assigned to volunteers include:
• Promotion (SJLC website, social media, etc.)
• Video production (advertising and event)
• Ushers
• Parking assistance
• Set up and Tear Down
• Clean up
• Assistants to the Artists
